HDC Feb news

Hello Dance Families,

Here are a few reminders for the coming weeks.

1) Our cancellation policy.  We try hard not to cancel classes at all.  Just because school is canceled or no school for any reason, does not mean that we will cancel classes.  We make the decision by 1:00pm each day. We post on the Band app, we send a ping on the HDC app, we post on social media (FB and insta), we try to send an email, but that will not always be possible. If you do not have the apps, the links are below.

2) Our make up policy.  If any classes is canceled more than once for any reason, we will schedule a make up class on a Friday night or Saturday. Otherwise, you may make up the classes at any given time during the season with another class of equal style or level.  We go on the honor system. Spending time in a new class is beneficial and often FUN, to students even if it is not exactly what they have been working on in their own class. So far this season, we have only canceled Thursday Jan 22 classes, make up information was emailed to everyone in those classes.

3) With the cold temperatures, we encourage ALL students to dress in layers.  Students are often cold when class first starts but will warm up quickly.  Wearing a t-shirt or sweatshirt over their leotard is perfectly fine and actually encouraged as long as they are prepared to take it off when asked.

4) This time of year we often get students (and parents) that are tired of coming to class.  We don’t blame you as we all get into hibernation mode. In an effort to make the classes more fun when we are getting knee deep in learning recital choreography and doing it over an over, we celebrate dance during the month of February with Spirit Month.  Each week we will have a different theme for the students to dress as if they wish.  The studio will also have special fun props and fun music to go with it.  This is designed to be fun, not to stress out the parents so participate as little or as much as you like.

Week of Feb 2-6 Zoo Week: dress up or wear clothing that reflect your fav animal.
Week of Feb 9-12 Love/Red Week: celebrating Love, what do you love? god, parents, ice cream? wear it.
Week of Feb 16-19 Glow Week: the studio will be darkish and have black lights out, wear white or florescent clothing to show up better.
Week of Feb 23: Celebration of Dance week! Bring a Friend to Dance and Parent Watch Week!  (bring a snack to share, bring a friend, lets have a dance party) All friends that are not currently registered at HDC must complete the release of liability waiver before coming to class.  Release of Liability for Friends.

5) Prizes for the Little Caesars Fund Raiser!  I know it’s been months, but I finally picked up the t-shirts that are prizes for the fundraiser we did in October.  I will have them at the studio this week.  They are sorted by family name and in plastic Meijer bags and will be up front after 6:00 Monday.  If you wonder if you won a t-shirt, here is the list of families that have a t-shirt waiting for them. Addie/Everly Hatler, Arla Curtis, Austin Rodgers, Bella Ritter, Blaire Brunner, Bryndle/Rae Martin, Carley Fedewa, Ellie Schreiner, Grace/Elenor Dainton, Jordyn Koslowski, Kendal/Kensington Theis, Kenzley Rice, Kylen Steadman, Leala Lockwood, Lilyanna Iir, Maddie Robbins, Maelynne Slavik, Magnolia Seyfred, Mila Cooper, Reyna Horveth, Sawyer Feldpaushch.

Remember if your students are in both shows, you are not required to purchase tickets to see both shows if you do not want to.  We love to have volunteers help back stage for 1 show, then watch the other one.  Please also note that I strive, and work very hard,  to have students that are in multiple classes and have siblings in another level, be in the same show.  That cannot always happen unfortunately. Example, the stage 2 classes on Monday are scheduled to be in both shows in order to help families with other sibling that are in different levels be able to invite families to only watch 1 show but see both students.  The stage 2 classes will be scheduled to perform toward the end of show A, and at the beginning of show B so that whichever one you don’t have family coming to, you can arrive or leave and not have to spend the entire day at the auditorium.
