Here is important information!

The week of February 19-23 is Celebration of Dance Week!  We do this at our studio because we recognize that students get tired of working on only the recital routine or frustrated or bored if not given a reprieve.  This week, in all classes except advanced, students are invited to bring a friend (close to their age) to class.  The friend can dance with them for free; we will do across the floor combinations, limbo, play dance games, and show our friends our dances.  Parents are encouraged to make this a special week as well.  Perhaps you could bring a treat to share with the class, order pizza and have a party in the back room, invite someone special to come watch the class or just do something special as a family that week.  The goal is to recreate the excitement of coming to dance class.

Secondly, the week of March 19-23 is bring costumes to dance week. Students are encouraged to bring their costumes to class and wear them to practice in them! We may as well get some use out of them and they are so much fun!

Monday Jan 29 classes were cancelled due to instructor illness.  The make up for these classes is Saturday February 17^th at the following times:

Pre Dance 9-9:30am, Tap 2 9:30-10am,             Ballet 2 10-10:30 am, Jazz/HH 2 10:30-11am, Tumbling 2 11-11:45am, Adv Tap 11:45-12:30pm, Jazz/HH 4 12:30-1:15pm, Ballet/Lyrical 4 1:15-2:00

Any costume that shows the legs above the knee needs to wear tights with them at dress rehearsal and the recital.  All classes should wear light suntan tights except the following routines need white tights: Ballet Waterfall, Ballet Allegro Vivace, Pre dance Teddy Bear Hop, Pre Dance Cute and Cuddly, Pre Combo Diva Dolls/Keep on Tryin.

You can get tights (Footed or transition) at several places, including bottoms up in Okemos or online at www.discountdance.com or even amazon.  My favorite brand is Capezio Hold and Stretch (light suntan) or Capezio Ultra soft (light suntan) but the Theatricals brand that is cheaper works as well.  The color – light suntan- is the most important part.

If your student changes costumes backstage, she is required to wear a nude colored bodysuit under the costume to maintain modesty.  There are several available online.

Due to weather conditions, the Friday classes for February 9th are cancelled. We will make up the class in March or April after the weather clears up.

Although school was cancelled due to weather, we will still have dance classes. As usual, use your discretion when traveling.

Due to instructor illness, all dance classes on Monday January 29th are cancelled.  The roads are bad as well, stay safe and healthy family. A make up class will be scheduled after Spring Break.

Reminder that there IS still dance tonight although kids didn’t have school due to MLK day.

Enjoy your day off, then come to dance tonight.

Due to deteriorating road conditions, dance classes are cancelled for Friday January 12.

Attention Drama or Theater Guys!

Heather’s Dance Company is looking for guy dancers

ISO: 9 Boys ages 12-17 to learn and perform a tap dance to City of Stars (LaLa Land) with my 9 girl tap dancers in MS and HS.  No experience necessary and the choreography will not be difficult.

Cost: $0 for lessons (All practices are at Heather’s Dance Co- 221 N. Clinton Ave., St. Johns unless otherwise specified)

Costume: black dress pants, white button up dress shirt, rolled up at sleeves, black loose tie, black dress shoes or black guy tap shoes.

Dancing with a girl: Guys will need to be comfortable acting and dancing with a girl, holding hands, etc.

Time commitment: Please check your calendar carefully!

Recital Saturday May 19, 2018 11:00am show AND 3:00pm show (PHS Auditorium) mandatory

Dress Rehearsal Tuesday May 8, 2018 8:00pm (PHS Auditorium) mandatory

Practices to learn choreography: Mondays from 7:00-7:45pm January 22, 29, Feb 5, 12, 19 flexible

Other optional practices from 7:20-7:45pm: March 5, 12, 19, 26, April 9, 16, 23, 30, flexible

Practices for Sweeps:  May 7, 14 7:20-7:45pm mandatory but flexible if made other practices.

What to wear to practice: Comfortable pants or shorts and shirt.

*Note: We really just want to have this cute dance look decent for our recital.  Guys can learn as much tap dancing as they want, or we can adjust it down for skill level. This class of 9 girls are doing 2 routines, the times indicated are the times scheduled for the City of Stars dance but the time can be adjusted slightly to accommodate if necessary.

Although students had a snow day today, please note that dance classes are NOT cancelled.  As usual, please consider what is best for your family.  If you are not comfortable with the roads, I completely understand if students miss class.  If we don’t see you today, have a Merry Christmas and we will see you next year.

Although school was let out early, dance classes are NOT cancelled. (With the exception of tumbling at 7:30)

Do what is best for your family, if you feel safe getting your dancer there, I will be there to teach.
